My colleagues and I recently received this e-mail from the facilities department: “Due to construction, your office may be either cooler or warmer than usual on Tuesday. Dress accordingly.”

Banned Movie

I was preparing to teach a college course on the history of movie censorship and went to the library to take out films that had been censored. “Do you have any banned movies in your collection?” I asked the librarian.

“Oh yes,” she answered. “We have some really good ones. What would you like: Tommy Dorsey? Glenn Miller?”

Can pilots fly

I worked in the biology department at Buffalo State College in New York. The Great Lakes Laboratory, also stationed at the college, employed a licensed boat captain to man its research vessel. It was common knowledge that the captain couldn‘t swim. When newcomers learned of this, they would often approach him about it. “Is it true?” one of them asked incredulously. “You, a boat captain, can‘t swim?”

”No, I can‘t!” he replied. “Can pilots fly?”

Annual performance review

My good friend is more aggressive at work than she realizes. After she had her annual performance review, I asked, “How did it go?”

“They had written that I was overbearing,” she replied with a shrug. “I made them take it off.”
